When visiting Copenhagen, anyone who is anybody is sure to stay
in the Hotel d'Angleterre on Kongens Nytorv : this is
where visiting dignitaries and rock stars live when they're in town-- as
long as someone else is paying the bill. A double room costs 3215
kroner per day (about $673), quite expensive to stay there or eat in the
resturant, and therefore proof of high status and wealth. Never been
inside myself, nor has anyone I know, couldn't afford it, but I suppose
it's quite nice.
Well, of course, we who live here don't tend to use any hotels,
expensive or cheap, simply because we've already got a place to stay.
However, Københavners actually DO have a use for Hotel
d'Angleterre--there is quite often some crowd of fans hanging out in
front of the main entrance, trying to catch a glimpse of Bruce
Springsteen, or Pavarotti, or the Spice Girls as they slip into their
limos on the way to concert, airport, wherever.
