HYMNS OF UNHOLINESS
I met Satan walking with his friends
Past the Crossroad on the Road That Never Ends
Where I stood.
They bade me come walk with them on their way,
I really had no other place to go that day,
It sounded good.
And these Hymns of Unholiness plague my mind.
They asked if there was anything I'd need:
They told me they could get it, sell it to me, guaranteed,
I asked for Truth.
They paused, eyes locked in secrets that they shan't give,
And Satan said, "I'm sorry, son, I can't give
You the Truth."
And these Hymns of Unholiness are all I find.
So I turned and walked the opposite direction,
Where I met an angel suffering with infection,
So I asked him.
His eyes looked so sad for me as he said,
"Yours is not to know that Truth is dead,
For that is Sin."
And these Hymns of Unholiness have made me blind.
Then what of Right and Wrong and Faith and Fear?
He choked up and spread his wings and shed a tear,
Away he flew.
Embarked upon my floating flights of fancy,
Whispered words that tell me what I can't see
But I do.
And these Hymns of Unholiness plague my mind.
