STILL IN LOVE WITH YOU IN
MEXICO
Yes, I'm still in love with you in Mexico,
Let me show it to you through my eyes:
See the sun making diamonds on the sea
Beneath a turquoise sky.
Surrounded by the sand I watch the ocean roll
And I go into its cool embrace,
And my soul unfolds and fills
With the beauty of this place.
And I eat fried fish and drink cerveza
As the days go by,
And my skin turns brown and when I turn around
I found that I have just said good-bye.
Because I'm still in love with you in Mexico
And I know I have to go and why,
For I know that you are awaiting me,
And that loving you is part of being free,
As the moon makes silver on the sea
Beneath a tropic sky.
The ruins of ancient people lost to history,
With their mysteries inscribed in stone,
And their bloodstained sacrificial altars
Can make you feel alone.
Surrounded by the green I watch the jungle grow
It is slow, but unrelenting in its pace
As if never had a city or a culture
Been standing in this place.
And the jungle-time will conquer everything
More than the Spaniards ever could,
As the vines entwine behind the minds
That won't be understood.
And because I'm still in love with you in Mexico
My vision goes beyond this jungle to our home:
If the future is the past, as it has been,
And these cities fall, and rise and fall again,
If this pattern is repeated without end,
At least I'm not alone.
(Si, verdad, a me mi gusta Mexico,
Quiero ir a todos partes que están
Pero tambien quiero mi mujer
Esperando a me en Washington.
Entonces tengo que regresame a donde yo vivo,
De repente, estare otra vez aqui en Mexico.)
My senses are intrigued by the pueblo street,
With the meaty taste of tacos in my mouth
And a mango in my hand and a vision in my eyes
Of heading South.
Surrounded by the music on the Zocalo,
In a magic show of colors and of light,
And cathedral chimes ringing to remind
How you were with me one such night.
And I hitch all day, the distnce slides away,
At night I play guitar.
And this song keeps growing, my mind is flowing,
Going where you are.
So many lovely ladies here in Mexico
I get so lonely that I don't know what to do,
But I feel that none of them are here for me,
And although it does me good to be so free,
I really feel next time I come I'd rather be
Coming here with you.
Yes, I'm still in love with you in Mexico,
And I know I have to go and why,
As the sun sets golden on the desert
Beneath a purple sky.
