This train's wheels click-clacking are carrying me away 
To someplace where the cops don't wish me ill, 
Someplace, I don't care, far from that trouble town. 
I just can't make it there, so what the hell, 
     I'm leaving Trouble Town. 
 
When I drifted into town it felt like where I'd like to be 
Although a toothbrush and a comb was all I had. 
I'd been on the road so long, it was time to make a stand 
I had no idea it could all turn out so bad
     It's a trouble town. 
 
I even met a local beauty who liked me like I was 
So I thought I'd stay and get to know her well. 
But her dad was Chief of Police, and he did not like my face, 
"Vagrancy", they charged and threw me into jail
     Right downtown Trouble Town.. 
 
And I couldn't find a job nowhere no matter how I tried, 
And I would have starved if she had not been there. 
Though it bothered me to be mooching off my girl friend, 
But then her dad sent her away, I don't know where. 
     Far from Trouble Town
 
And they jumped me in the alley and they tried to roll and rob me, 
But the joke's on them, I didn't have no dough 
So the cops put me in jail again for fighting in their town, 
And the rain a-falling said it's time to go. 
     Get out of Trouble Town.
