The Characters


The Superhumans

GARGANTUA
(John B.) Gargantua, the superhuman corrections officer at Westington State Prison, is the hero of our tale. He is huge, over 7 feet tall, weighs more than 300 pounds, and is stronger, faster, smarter and tougher than any man alive. The cons fear him, the other guards are resentful.

But there is a sinister secret background, for he was once a psychopathic killer named John Burden before the state converted him into an Amplified Enforcement Type (A.E.T.) Age: indeterminate, 30-40?

THE TATTOO MASTER
The Tattoo Master (originally Ashley Eveans) was himself a prisoner at Westington 40 years ago. Back then he was already an old-timer who did tattoos. But he had a revelation that God and Satan are the same, and from then on his tattoos were magic symbols. Over the years he has tattooed himself and has now ascended to godlike power. He turned his back on the world of men, had a special secret cell built for him under the prison, where he has been a hermit observing everything that went on in the prison above him, as well as the rest of the world. He needs nothing, not food nor human companionship, his tattoos sustain him. But he becomes interested in Gargantua--whom he choses to test. Age: old, but powerful, 80-100?

DEMON
The Earth Demon is called up by the Tattoo Master to possess the physical body of a con and test Gargantua. It is evil, strong, and talkative.

The Guards

WARDEN WARDEN
George Warden, commander at Westington State Prison, actually rather fair-minded and humanitarian for a warden. His is the moral voice. Sturdy build, a good man, age 50.

SGT CRUST
Andy Crust, crusty old guard in charge of the Corrections Officers, firm but fair. Age 55.

WREDNECK
Joe Wredneck, a bad officer, jealous of Gargantua, capable of treachery. Age 40.

STAN
Sally Port guard, controls access in and out of the prison, as well as all the keys to the institution, an old timer. Age 43.

DUNDER
Fat slob Officer, jealous of Gargantua's superiority. Usually runs Cell Block C with Wrednek. Age 34.

STANDWELL
Stefan (Steve) Standwell, a good officer, one of the few who befriends Gargantua, married to Sheila. Usually runs D Block. Age 30.

SGT. STRIDER
Bud Strider, Sgt down in the Hole. Age 36.

EPSON
Pete Epson, a young, hard-working guard, one of the better. Age 22.

GRIDIRON
Ex Marine, tough and athletic guard, doesn't say much. Age 31.

TOOBS
Fat, lazy, disgruntled guard. Complains, doesn't like Gargantua. Usually in the Hole. Age 32.

various unnamed guards

PASSAGE GUARD
checks cons in and out of the visiting Room.

DR DALE
State doctor, works in the infirmary, checked Strongson for grass, patched up Gargantua's wound.

The Cons

STRONGSON
Charlie Strongson is big, black, bad and dangerous. Is in prison for killing a white man with his fists, but has gone unpunished for many drug-related crimes and murders. He is respected and feared inside, leader of the "Black Brothers", runs drugs inside the prison, has connections in Seapolis. Considered Rosie his girl, hates Gargantua with a passion.

CAESAR
Caesar Octavio Lawrence, a natural leader and organizer, intelligent, politically oriented, prefers legal activities. Age 33.

BUSHY
Ed Bushwiller, big fat slob, defeatist, yet avid follower of Ceasar. Age 29.

JOKKO
 usually silly or stoned, curly afro-like hair, Stash's buddy. Age 26.

STASH
 mostly stoned dude, long-haired, big mustachio. Jokko's buddy. age 26.

POP
Elwin Evans, institutionalized old-timer, the only man still in prison who once knew the Tattoo Master. Age 74.

MESTIZO
Alberto Mestizo, poor Mexican loser, speaks only Spanish, which causes Gargantua to learn Spanish overnight. One of the few cons who is grateful and loyal to Gargantua Age 26.

TWILLER
J.D. Twiller,older con who's been around different prisons, now fat and balding. He was once celly with John Burden, the evil baby-raper. Age 57.

SCHOLAR
Learned the con who runs the Prison Library, knows a lot, can find things. Glasses, long hair, fat. Age 35.

SPECS
yet another academic nerd, age 27.

ZOPO
very stupid con, mostly for comic relief.

GIRLGUY
Trixie, gay con who tries to be as girllike as possible, but suffers from acute self-hate. Age23.

BIG BRUISER
big con who tries to start a riot for killing Gargantua.

BIPLEY
skinny little con who tries to knife Gargantua.

HUMBERT
Dudley Humbert, a totally inoffensive middle-aged con, balding, slightly overweight. Easy to intimidate. Age 49.

STORM
Danny Storm, young muscleguy, long-haired, a wannabe thug. Age 27.

PARSONS
torched STIKWELL's cell, arrested.

BLACK BROs 1-5
The black "brothers" who follow Strongson.

CONs 1-13, A-Z
various generic cons, we never learn their names.

BIKERs 1-5
5 Hell's Angels locked in prison, troublemakers, violent, thugs.

The Civilians

ROSIE
Rosalie Nice, black girl, big at 6'1", likes big men. Was STRONGSON's visitor, but falls for GARGANTUA. Works at the Blazer Restaurant in the town of Mansfield, where Westington State Prison is located. Originally she came from the bigger city of Seapolis 30 miles away, where she still studies at the university on and off. Age 25.

MURIEL
Muriel Deeds, a mature black woman, owner of the Blazer Resturant, Rosie's friend. Age 30.

DOCTOR NIIDLE
Dr. Samuel (Sammy) Niidle, bioengeneerings expert, in charge of Gargantua's maintenance and programming for the Federal Government's experimental A.E.T. Project. Age 40.

GOVERNOR
The unnamed Governor of the unnamed State, tall, handsome, charming and ruthless. He insists that the A.E.T. Program be a success, no matter who gets hurt. Age about 55.

HITMAN 1
Lorenzo, tall & elegant, the shooter. Age 44.

HITMAN 2
heavy, brutish, the driver. Age 44.

STATE COP
Highway Patrol Officer, seen only briefly from a distance.

DEAD GIRL SCOUTS
13 torn & tattered & bloody zombie Girl Scouts, once victims of the perverse John Burden in his last orgy of mass rape and murder, for which he was sentenced to death. They now haunt Gargantua-Burden in his dreams. Ages 11-13.

BARTENDER
serves drinks in a bar to Gargantua-Burden.

TERRY
young white guy interested in Rosie, a study colleague. Is bullied by Gargantua-Burden.
COMMENTATOR
TV News Commentator on News 4announces "the A.E.T Project" to the world.
