AQ is a 900-page graphic novel about Tazio, the reluctant Antichrist.
He is the paradoxical Good Beast of the Apocalypse, who challenges
that Evil Destiny laid out for him.
The story is based upon the Biblical Book of Revelations, wherein the
End of the World is prophecied as a great final battle between God and
Satan, destined to occur at a place in Israel named Har-Megaddon,
popularly misnamed "Armageddon". The major antagonists of that war
are to be God & Christ against Satan & his Beast/Antichrist-- and these
are the very characters in AQ.
Ever since the Book of Revelations was written 2000 years ago, the
BEAST OF THE APOCALYPSE has been perhaps the most notorious and
mysterious figure in Christian mythology: that dramatic monster with
the symbolic 7 heads and ten horns, the infamous 666, the Man of Evil,
the Agent of The Dragon, the incarnation of Satan; the Anti-Christ,
etc.
Historically, Biblical scholars have always been ready to interpret the
signs in Revelations as PROOF that the Apocalypse is even now upon us
--Nero was certainly the Beast --no wait, it must have been the Pope
--no wait, it's gotta be Hitler --Saddam Hussein maybe?..
Such a compelling character just had to show up in literature, and has
indeed: in books, movies, music, art, even comic books --always as the
Worst Villain There Ever Was or Ever Will Be, for everybody agrees on
one thing: The Beast is the Ultimate Bad Guy.
So here is AQ, yet one more Beast/Antichrist Story, right?
Sure, but in AQ The Beast is the Hero. Tazio is the Good Guy,
unfortunately destined to be the Antichrist, and he does NOT want the
job. He's an Avatar, a god incarnate, with magical powers...but does
he have enough power to escape that fate? That's the story.
It took 10 years to write/draw AQ, spanning a million years of world
history, involving about 40 main characters spread throughout the 900
pages. Whew!

AQ er en 900-sider grafisk roman om Tazio, den uvillige Antikristus.
Han er det paradoksalt gode Dyr af Apokalypsen, han er helten der nægter
den onde skæbne som er pålagt ham.
Historien er baseret på Johannes' Åbenbaring fra Biblen, hvori jordens
undergang er spået som et stort endeligt opgør imellem Gud og Satan. Det
skulle finde sted i Israel ved Har-Megiddon, ofte udtalt som "Armageddon".
Hovedmodstanderne i den krig skulle være Gud & Kristus imod Satan &
Dyret/Antikristus-- disse karakterer findes også i AQ.
Lige fra dengang Johannes' Åbenbaring blev skrevet for 2000 år siden,
og til nu, har apokalypsens DYRET sandsynligvis været den mest berygtede
og mystiske figur i den Kristne mytologi: det dramatiske uhyre med de
symbolske 7 hoveder og 10 horn, den frygtede 666, dragens agent, Satans
inkarnation; Antikristus, o.s.v.
Historisk set, har bibelske akademikere altid været parat til at
fortolke tegnene i Åbenbaringen som et BEVIS for at Apokalypsen er lige
ved at ske NU! --Nero var helt bestemt Dyret --nej, vent lige, det var
sikkert Paven --ellers kunne det godt har været Hitler --Saddam Hussein
måske?..
Sådan en fascinerende karakter måtte dukke op i litteraturen, og det har
den sandeligt: i bøger, på film, i sange, i kunst, selv i tegneserier
--altid som den væreste skurk nogen sinde. Og alle er enige om en ting:
Dyret er den ultimative Bad Guy.
Så her kommer AQ, bare endnu en til Dyret/Antikristus historie, ikke
sandt?
Jo, men i AQ er Dyret helten. Tazio er the Good Guy, desværre født til
at være Antikristus, men han vil IKKE have jobbet. Han er en Avatar,
en inkarneret gud, med magiske kræfter...men har han kræfter nok til at
undgå sin skæbne? Der ligger historien.
Det tog 10 år at skrive/tegne AQ, den dækker en million år,
indbefattende omkring 40 hovedkarakterer på de 900 sider. Puha!
